Dilapidated House

Date

March 2025

This piece is a handbuilt ceramic house that leans into the feeling of age, wear, and quiet abandonment. The structure is intentionally uneven and slightly distorted, with sagging lines and broken elements that suggest it’s been left to deteriorate over time. Empty windows and boarded openings create a sense of absence—like something once lived here, but doesn’t anymore.

The surface is finished with ink, which settles into the textures and emphasizes every crack, groove, and rough edge. That contrast brings out the details in the wood grain, stonework, and roof, giving the house a sense of history and weight. The muted tones keep it grounded and a little somber, adding to that worn, weathered feeling.

There are subtle surreal elements woven in, especially with the tree growing into and through the structure. It feels like nature is slowly reclaiming the space, blurring the line between what was built and what is growing. That interaction adds a sense of quiet tension—something between decay and transformation.

Overall, the piece is less about a specific place and more about a feeling. It explores ideas of time, neglect, and what gets left behind, while also hinting at change and the way things continue to evolve even after they’ve been forgotten.
